Thanks to the wonderful world of pinterest, I was able to discover the beautiful art of Brian Rutenberg. And as I clicked over to his website to find out a little bit of information about him to share with all of you, I found out he is from South Carolina! Awesome! He has had exhibitions all over the country, and received his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. From his website, it appears that most of his paintings are oil paintings on linen. Check out his brightly colored artwork.
I love all the bright colors and the textures on these canvases. According to wikipedia, Rutenberg is known to use a liberal amount of oil paint, sometimes up to three inches. Wikipedia also states that Brian Rutenberg’s objective with his paintings is to “address the physical present of the viewer first.” That sounds very important, and inspiring, but I’m not sure I know exactly what that means. Maybe he means something like his goal is to draw in the viewer with bright colors and textures, and then force them to look for the deeper meaning or more concrete image within his paintings. What do you think?
