What a name, right? Honestly, I don’t know much of anything about this artist except for the way the paintings make me feel. And they make me feel warm. I think you’ll be able to see exactly what I mean when I share these awesome paintings with you. One of the descriptors on the website where I first saw these paintings was “sensual.” Now, I left out the naughty ones that contained some nudity, but I still get a sensual vibe from the rest of these paintings. Something about the use of different bright colors to show light and shadow. I’ll show you what I mean.

This artist also has a really cool series of paintings that are not considered portraits, but maybe more landscapes. I love the colors and the sky in the background. You’ll like them. Trust me.

I love these paintings! I love the textures, and I love the colors. I love the way the girls in the portraits look, and I love the selection of scenes for the landscape paintings. I hope you guys like these paints as much as I do! I wish I could tell you where to go to see some more of these paintings, but like I said, I can’t seem to find them anywhere! Google. It works. Enjoy!

seung mo park

Today I’m going to share with all of you an artist I discovered over on craftgawker. I think you’re really going to like this artist’s unique style and medium. Seung Mo Park uses wire mesh to create amazing portraits. That’s right. Wire mesh. Like what is on your screen door. She starts with a photograph and then compiles layer after layer of wire mesh to begin her project. Once she’s ready to get cracking, she begins by cutting away at the layers to expose the portrait she is trying to create. Check out some examples of her work.

this one shows awesome detail

i think this one is my favorite.

I love these! If you didn’t know any better, you might think they were grainy pencil drawings, or even pictures with low resolution. Not only are the portraits amazing because of what they are made of, they are amazing as portraits themselves. I feel like all of these girls have a secret that they’re keeping from me. It’s amazing that wire mesh, like on my screen door, can bring such emotions.

Victor Garcia

hello bloggy friends! sorry for my unannounced absence last week. Every now and then you just gotta take a break! But now we’re back in action with a new artist to share with everyone!

Today’s featured artist is another artist that came to my attention through a request to be on my blog! I always love when that happens. I find it so flattering that people want to be shown on my little ol’ blog. Victor Garcia is an artist that focuses on portraits. Check out some of his art below.

I love the details in this one!

The one below, even though not a portrait per se, is my favorite.

If you go check out his website (which you definitely should) you will see a couple videos which Victor calls “speed drawings.” It’s really cool to watch how these pieces of art are created. I love watching the different techniques he uses to achieve the final outcome. I thought one of the interesting tricks he used was a spot of whiteout in the pupil of one of the subject’s eyes to achieve the reflective glare that is often difficult to accomplish with simple erasing. I always love discovering new artists, and I’ll be sure to check back in with Victor’s blog to keep tabs on the new art he creates.

If you want to be featured on my blog, feel free to shoot me an e-mail at allrainydaysarentgray@gmail.com.

carmelo blandino

Today’s artist discovery is Carmelo Blandino. This is actually a unique discovery due to the fact that Carmelo approached me! He shared some information about himself and his work, and asked me if I would be interested in featuring him! So I headed over to his website to check things out, and found out right away that I couldn’t say no, nor did I want to! According to the biography on his website, Carmelo was born in Germany and grew up in Montreal, Quebec. He studied art and design at his local colleges and began a career as an illustrator. He later shifted his focus to fine art, specifically painting. When he e-mailed me, he mentioned his medium was oil paints and spray paints used in a large scale. Carmelo’s primary focus as of late has been florals. To quote his e-mail to me, “My flowers are about life movement, happiness, and the energy that propels us forward. I like to think they inspire others to move within their lives, and shine on with their inherent beauty.” I can tell from the way Carmelo discusses his art, and from the paintings themselves, that he is passionate about his work, which is invaluable. So enough talk, check it out!

I was especially fond of his landscape paintings.

AND! He even has portraiture work! (which I found on his blog)

I am super impressed by Carmelo’s work! I love his landscapes the best. I can almost feel the movement within them. I’m also very impressed by his use of color. He’s definitely not afraid to use color, and I love that. From checking out his website and his blog, I get the idea that Carmelo is an incredibly talented and versatile artist. Carmelo mentioned in his e-mail to me that he was inspired by nature consciousness and also his meditation routine. I’m not in to meditation, but I thought I’d put it out there for any of you artists who may potentially be having a creative block. Anyway, go check out Carmelo’s website to see the rest of his work!  And don’t be afraid to e-mail me, and ask to be featured! You could be next!

Today’s artist discovery is Alexa Meade. Alexa is an artist based in D.C. that combines portriature, painting, photography and installation to create a unique style of art. From her website, “Rather than creating representational paintings on a flat canvas, Alexa Meade creates her representational paintings directly on top of the physical subjects that she is referencing. When photographed, the representational painting and the subject being referenced appear to be one and the same as the 3D space of her painted scenes becomes optically compressed into a 2D plane.”

Above is a photograph of one of her pieces. Below is the same piece from another angle.

The guy in the picture above is actually a real person! Alexa applies the paint directly to the man and his surroundings, and when photographed, it appears to be a painted portrait! Here are some more examples:

as she applies the paint

looks like a painting!

but it's a real guy!

as people look at the installation

painted portrait?

real lady! how bad would that tickle?

portrait of an elderly man?

on the subway

Can you imagine seeing this guy on your way home from work? How confused would you be? His back is even painted. Check it out:

look at that guy's face.

Oh don’t mind me, just have a train to catch. No big deal.

I believe this is a truly one of a kind style of art. I’ve never seen anything like it. Alexa blends many different styles of art together to create her own unique and individual style. In my opinion, she is truly an innovator.
